CAVA Nutrition Calculator: A Dietitian's Guide

Written & reviewed by Jennifer Zoned, PhDLast reviewed June 2026Based on official CAVA nutrition data

CAVA is one of the easiest places to build a genuinely good meal, because the menu is Mediterranean and vegetable-forward by design. That said, 'healthy restaurant' does not mean 'low calorie automatically.' A bowl can be light and balanced, or it can climb quickly once you stack a grain base, a couple of dips and a generous drizzle of dressing. The control is yours, which is exactly why a calculator helps.

You build from bases, mains (proteins), toppings, dips and spreads, dressings, sides and drinks, plus the curated bowls and pitas. The calculator shows you how each scoop adds up, so you can land the balanced version rather than an accidental heavy one.

930calories in the heaviest (Spicy Chicken + Avocado)
48gprotein in the top pick (Spicy Chicken + Avocado)

The base sets the foundation

Your base is the first big lever. A greens base (or splitting greens with a grain) keeps calories and carbs lower, while a full scoop of rice or grains is more filling and energy-dense. There is no wrong answer, it depends on whether you want a lighter bowl or a heartier one, but the base often accounts for more of the total than people expect, so choose it on purpose.

Proteins: lean and plentiful

CAVA's proteins are a strong point. The grilled chicken and the lean options are protein-forward without much fat, while the richer braised and lamb options sit a little higher. The spicy chicken and the harissa-marinated proteins add a lot of flavor, and pairing a lean protein with the vegetable toppings gives you a high-protein bowl that still lands reasonably, which is the sweet spot for most goals.

Dips, spreads and the hummus question

The dips and spreads are where CAVA gets delicious and where the calories quietly concentrate. Hummus, tzatziki and the harissa and feta spreads are all worth enjoying, but they are calorie-dense, and it is easy to add three or four scoops without thinking. My advice is to choose one or two you really want rather than defaulting to a full row of them. The fresh vegetable toppings, by contrast, you can pile on for almost nothing.

Dressings, pitas and sides

The dressings are the other lever: a drizzle adds flavor, but the creamier ones add up if poured heavily, so on the side or a lighter hand keeps a bowl in range. The curated pitas are convenient but wrap everything in bread, so they run a bit heavier than the bowls. The sides (the pita chips, the splurge-y extras) count toward the meal, so factor them in.

How I’d order here
  • Choose a greens base, or split greens with a grain, for a lighter bowl.
  • Pick a lean protein like grilled chicken and pile on the vegetable toppings.
  • Enjoy one or two dips rather than a full row of them.
  • Get dressing on the side or use a lighter hand.
  • Remember the pitas run heavier than bowls, and count the sides.

Sources & method

Nutrition values are compiled from official CAVA published nutrition information and reputable public nutrition databases, then normalized to a consistent per-item format. Figures vary with build, size and customization, so use this calculator as a close guide and confirm in-store details when you need exact numbers. Frequently Asked Questions

It is genuinely vegetable-forward and easy to eat well at, but 'healthy restaurant' does not mean low calorie automatically. A bowl can be light or climb quickly depending on the base, the dips and the dressing. The ingredients are good; the portions of the rich components are what to watch.

The base and the dips. A full grain base is energy-dense, and the hummus, tzatziki and feta spreads are calorie-dense, so three or four scoops add up fast. Choosing a greens base and one or two dips rather than a full row keeps the total in check.

Pick a lean protein like grilled chicken (or a double protein), pair it with plenty of vegetable toppings, and keep the base lighter. That gives you a high-protein, satisfying bowl that still lands at a reasonable calorie total.

The bowls give you more control and run a bit lighter, since the pitas wrap everything in bread that adds calories and carbs. The pitas are fine when you want them, just read one as the slightly heavier option and keep the dips and dressing measured.
